We lost Molly on Saturday. She was 14 years old.
Everyone says they had the best boy or the best girl, and everyone is right. Molly was about four months old when she joined us for Amy’s 11th birthday.
I will say about Molly that she might have been the most easygoing dog I’ve ever known. Molly loved to play when she was younger, but she loved just hanging out with her people more. She was the smiliest dog I’ve ever had. She taught me a bit about tranquility, that’s for sure.
And because she was so smiley, it was easy to tell when her various treatments over the past year of her life were working well. Her mood wasn’t often truly bad, even when she was at her worst, but the rebound was obvious when she got some real relief.

Thank you for blessing us, sweet girl. Rest easy.
I want to mention four different places:
- Dr. Rip Patton at Northway Animal Hospital has been our veterinarian for more than 30 years. He has an excellent manner, truly expert knowledge, and excels at explaining what’s going on. He cared for Molly to the end.
- Dr. Jean Rogers at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brentwood, Tennessee was Molly’s oncologist. We found easy rapport with her. She is genuine and sharp. Honestly I hope we never see her again, but if we do need veterinary oncology we will seek her out.
- Dr. Rebecca McClellan of Companion Crossing came to our—Molly’s—home to help her let go when it was time. She did a marvelous job bringing compassion and peace to a terrible day.
- Paws Memorial Services in Decatur cremated Molly. I worked with Amanda for a Saturday intake and she was prompt and helpful. You can reach Paws Memorial Services at (256) 431-2122.
