On Ted Lasso

When we got Apple TV we always knew we’d get around to Ted Lasso, and we started watching it a couple of weeks ago.

Honestly, it’s not my favorite.

Ted Lasso is an American football coach who moves to England to coach a soccer team. Half the humor is written around his outwardly hayseed personality, and about half of that half works. The show is a comedy that isn’t funny enough to sustain itself as a comedy.

But it’s sweet.

Ted Lasso is a show for which dilemmas are usually resolved by people being kind to each other. I don’t think we have very many of those shows, and if we do they’re certainly not the big ones. A bit of a spotlight on basic decency isn’t such a bad thing right now. Plus, while its female characters are not numerous, they are strong.

Couple those characteristics with its short per-episode run time, and I can watch it with Lea in and around things in which I’m more interested.
