Well, let me say three additional things. Because the first things we should do about the election are continue to love our family and friends, work hard and with integrity, live beneath our means, and so forth. If it was a good idea to do something two weeks ago, it’s still a good idea to … Read more
This week, I am indulging my misery and rage. Funny thing—I confessed that to a friend in a text, half-expecting her to diplomatically wag her finger a little and tell me I couldn’t stay there. Instead she said “rage feels so good.” Heh. Next week, I will begin marching again. The last time Trump was … Read more
This is outstanding work. Take the time.
Obviously, I didn’t care for the final score of Alabama’s game at Vanderbilt Saturday. However, part of me cared even less for the fact that Alabama in the second half didn’t look significantly different from Alabama in the first half. Because we’ve been there, right? We missed something in chalk talk. Our opponent has found … Read more
Clearly I was feeling aspirational and not particularly practical when I said in my very first post on this blog: “One thing you won’t find here is overt politics, red meat or otherwise.” I’ve since written two unambiguously political posts, and a third that at least skirts the definition. The (only?) debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris was Tuesday night. I decided I couldn’t live-blog it because I didn’t know whether I would watch it all, but it turns out I did. I last voted for a major-party candidate for President of the United States in 2012, when I did so for Mitt Romney. In 2016 and 2020, I could not vote for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, or Joe Biden, so I voted Libertarian. But you know what? Even though over the years I have considered Trump … Read more
This week’s ninth- or tenth-greatest outrage in Western civilization, best I can tell from my feeds, is that Netflix co-founder and chairman Reed Hastings donated $7 million to a super PAC supporting the presidential campaign of Kamala Harris. If you are among the outraged, I have a recommendation for you in the interest of increasing … Read more
The grand tragedy of youth, of course, is that we don’t have the experience and resulting wisdom to fully appreciate it until after we’ve lost it. Then, when the gravity of this notion genuinely begins to hit us, we try to get our favorite young people (typically our children) to understand. Such efforts are futile, … Read more
