Wear your fitness watch on your ankle!

Early in the fitness tracker revolution, the pill/token form factor enjoyed some brief popularity. In most cases you could wear them like watches. But the tracker would also be easily removable from the band, and you could slip it in the watch pocket of your jeans (or even your wallet). I liked this a lot, because I generally want to wear a real watch during the day, and I didn’t want the watch I wanted to wear on my left wrist and my fitness watch on my right.

I persisted with an old pill tracker or two for a while during the day, while using the watch form factor overnight. But now none of my old pills are supported. So it’s been tough for me to wear something daily—until now.

I found this upper arm/ankle band on Amazon last week and I’m pleased with it. It enables me to wear my fitness watch on my ankle, and whatever watch I want to wear on my wrist. It is comfortable (I am not aware of it moment to moment). It will fit any watch with 20mm lugs. It gets my steps, my heart rate, my sleep—everything. I even used a push mower for two hours on Saturday and it never flinched. (It did prompt me to think I need to have a dedicated strap for getting sweaty and a different one for wearing day-to-day.) I can read it from the app on my phone.

Really, the only negative is that it looks pretty house-arresty:

So you should probably hide it with a sock (and I found mine would stay under an ankle sock too):

Maybe this has been a thing for a long time and I just found out. Wouldn’t be the first time. Whatever the case, I’m delighted.
